Terms
Terms of service
This is the agreement between you and Olitera Limited, the Kenyan company that operates LipaStream. Using the service means you accept it. There are two halves: one for people who buy tickets, one for people who sell them.
Last updated 15 September 2026
What LipaStream does
We let someone charge for a livestream. They set a price and share a link; their audience pays with M-Pesa and the stream opens. We take the payment, keep a commission, and pass the rest to the organiser.
We are not the organiser. We do not produce, curate or vet the events on the platform — the person running an event is responsible for it.
If you buy a ticket
What your ticket gets you
Access to one event, for yourself, from the phone number you paid with. That access lasts through the live broadcast and for seven days afterwards, so you can watch the replay. It is not transferable and sharing the link does not share the access — the link will not work for anyone else.
You may watch on more than one of your own devices. Reselling access, or rebroadcasting, recording or redistributing an event, is not allowed.
Paying
Payment is by M-Pesa. You enter your PIN on your own handset, on Safaricom’s prompt — we never see it. Prices are in Kenyan shillings and shown before you pay.
If your payment succeeds but access does not open, tell us and we will fix it or refund you. That is our failure, not yours.
Refunds
We refund you in full if:
- the event is cancelled, or never broadcasts;
- the broadcast fails so badly that it could not reasonably be watched, and the cause is ours or the organiser’s;
- you were charged twice for the same ticket.
We do not refund because you changed your mind, missed the event and the replay window, or did not enjoy it. Ask us within seven days of the event at [email protected], from the number you paid with. Refunds go back to that number.
If you run events
Your content stays yours
You own what you broadcast. You give us permission to stream it, record it and make the replay available to people who paid, for as long as we run the service. That permission exists so we can deliver what your audience bought, and for nothing else.
What you are responsible for
- Having the right to broadcast everything in your stream, including music and anything else you did not make.
- Describing your event accurately, and running it when you said you would.
- Your own tax obligations on what you earn.
- Keeping your stream key private. Anyone holding it can broadcast as you.
What you may not broadcast
Anything unlawful in Kenya; sexual content involving minors, or any content involving minors that would be unlawful; content that incites violence or hatred; material you have no right to use; or anything designed to defraud your audience.
We can remove an event, withhold a payout pending investigation, or close an account where we have good reason to believe this section has been broken. Where we withhold a payout and the concern turns out to be unfounded, we release it.
Money
We deduct our commission from each ticket and the balance is yours. Your rate is shown in your dashboard before you publish an event, and we will not change it for an event already on sale.
You request payouts to your M-Pesa number. Transfers are subject to Safaricom’s own limits and timings, which are outside our control. If a refund is due to a viewer after you have been paid, we may recover it from a later payout.
Accounts
Organisers sign in with a code sent by SMS. Keep your phone secure — anyone who can receive your messages can reach your account. Tell us immediately if you lose control of your number.
Viewers have no account. Your M-Pesa number is your ticket, which is also why you should not pay for someone else expecting to watch it yourself.
Availability
We work hard to keep streams up, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Live video depends on your connection, the organiser’s connection, and infrastructure none of us controls. Where a failure is ours, the refund terms above apply.
We may change or suspend parts of the service. If a change removes something you are relying on, we will give reasonable notice where we can.
Our liability
Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited under Kenyan law.
Otherwise, our total liability to you for anything connected with the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim. We are not liable for lost profits, lost audiences, or other indirect losses. If you are an organiser and a dispute arises between you and your audience, that is between you and them.
Ending it
You can stop using LipaStream whenever you like. We can close an account that breaks these terms, and will say why unless the law prevents us. Anything already owed — a payout to you, a refund to a viewer — survives the account closing.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction over any dispute.
Changes
If we change these terms we will update the date above. Material changes will be notified to organisers directly. A ticket you have already bought is governed by the terms in force when you bought it.
